In order to be a good UI/UX designer you do not need to be an expert coder, but you should be able to do basic HTML and CSS coding. Good knowledge of software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, etc. can add more to your skills as a graphic designer.

Apart from these technical skills, there are some other skills that both UX and UI designers need, including creativity, user empathy, curiosity, communication skills, and visual communication skills. If you have all these in your hand then you are good to go.

Difference between UI and UX design:

It is not easy for many people to see the margin line between UI and UX design. UX design is related to everything regarding the user experience, from basic functionality to interactions. While UI design relates only to the interface, UX design considers the complete experience that users take from the product. UI includes the creation and designing of complete interfaces that user uses to interact with the system. UI is the design of the real and tangible interface. UI is a part of UX. While you can say that UX is a complete user experience of the product. It includes the functionality and usability of the system. UX is like a user journey in solving a problem. UX focuses on the functional and conceptual part while UI is centered on the physical and tangible aspects.

As a whole, we can see there is a marginal difference between UI and UX design, and also skills that are required for becoming a UI/UX designer are almost the same. So we can say that a single person can do both the jobs of UI and UX development. There is hardly a need for separate roles of UI designer and UX designer, one can play both. As every company has its own requirements and opinion so they can appoint a different person as UI and UX designer. As a whole being a UI/UX designer is a lot more about creativity and visuals in order to fulfill the user requirements.
